What we collect when you report a cost
- Your install details: ZIP code, generator size, fuel, transfer switch type, brand (optional), gas-line run, install month, what you paid and any itemized parts.
- Notes (optional): only our reviewers see these. They're never published.
- Your email: used only to send a one-time code and to catch duplicate reports. It's never shown, shared, sold or included in exports. We don't send newsletters.
- A one-way hash of your IP address: used only to limit abuse (for example, too many reports from one place in a day). We don't store the IP itself.
What we publish
Only aggregate numbers (medians, ranges and counts) at city or 3-digit ZIP level, and only once an area has 3 or more approved reports. We never publish names, emails, phone numbers, street addresses or full ZIP codes.
Quote checker and lookup
Nothing you enter in the quote checker or lookup is saved.
Cookies and analytics
We don't use cookies, ads or third-party trackers. We keep simple first-party daily counts, stored on our own server: page views by page type (for example, "guide" or "place page") and four actions (a lookup, a quote check, a report started, and a code verified). The counts have no visitor identifiers, so we can't tell who did what.
Pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests them from Google's servers.
Emails we send
Verification codes are sent through our email provider, Resend. The email contains only your code and a link to this site.
Removing a report
To ask us to remove a report you submitted, email hello@generatorcostcheck.com from the address you used.
